HASWA Christmas party – 16 December 2015

HASWA Intergenerational Connecting Communities Project celebrated Christmas at the HASWA centre on the 16th December. Everybody joined in singing and telling their favorite jokes. After the raffel, traditional Christmas lunch and the vegetarian food was served. Mr Sansar Singh Narwal, Hon. Secretary wished everybody a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and said that everybody should respect and enjoy each other’s faith and culture. Thank you to all our staff, volunteers, members and guests for making this Christmas party very enjoyable and successful. The celebration was partly funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

HASWA Christmas Party 17th December 2014

HASWA Intergenerational Connecting Communities Project celebrated Christmas at the HASWA centre on the 17th December 2014. 70 people attended and the party started at 12pm. Everybody joined in to play Antakshari (Indian singing game) and our guest Councillor Alex Donald got everybody to sing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer! Mr Sansar Singh Narwal, Hon. Secretary held a minute’s silence for those who died in the terrorist attacks in Sydney, Australia and at the school in Pakistan.  He said that everybody should respect and enjoy each other’s faith and culture as Havering is a very diverse borough and wished everybody a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Everybody enjoyed the traditional Christmas lunch or the vegetarian option and waited eagerly for the raffle draw! Thank you to all our staff, volunteers, members and guests for making this Christmas party very enjoyable.

Diwali – 17 November 2018

Diwali, also known as the festival of lights was celebrated by the Havering Asian Social and Welfare Association (HASWA) at their community centre Greenfields, Kilmartin Way, Elm Park, Essex on Saturday 28th October 2017. Young and old came together for celebrations along with guests Mayor of Havering Councillor Dilip Patel with his wife Councillor Nisha Patel, Councillor Sally Miller, Rainham and Dagenham MP John Cruddas, Keith Prince AM, London Assembly Member for Havering & Redbridge and Colonel Markham Bryant DL MBE. 

Sansar Singh Narwal secretary of HASWA, said “events such as the Diwali celebration promote better cultural understanding of Havering’s rich and diverse community”.   Roop Johal, a member of HASWA raised awareness on the importance of BAME minorities becoming a stem cell donor as they only have 21% chance of finding donors internationally.  Her daughter aged 3 is fighting leukaemia and all the money raised at HASWA’s raffle will go towards her fund.  Entertainment was provided by the HASWA members, children dance groups and Veena Jain, Storm Vacademy and DJ RAVC. There was also a raffle, DJ, and authentic Indian cuisine.

Diwali 2017

Diwali, also known as the festival of lights was celebrated by the Havering Asian Social and Welfare Association (HASWA) at their community centre Greenfields, Kilmartin Way, Elm Park, Essex on Saturday 28th October 2017. Young and old came together for celebrations along with guests Mayor of Havering Councillor Linda Van den Hende with Mr Laurence Chalk, Councillor Melvin Wallace and Colonel Markham Bryant DL MBE. 

The guests delivered messages of goodwill to the community & Sansar Singh Narwal secretary of HASWA, said events such as the Diwali celebration promote better cultural understanding of Havering’s rich and diverse community. Entertainment was provided by the HASWA members, children dance groups and Veena Jain, Storm Vacademy. There was also a raffle, DJ, and authentic Indian cuisine.
