HASWA provides a number of activities available to people in the local community. These include:
Drop in Session
Monday – Friday 10am – 5pm. Feel free to come in and enjoy HASWAS’ facilities including: Social and welfare advice, gym equipment for light exercise, computers with internet, Asian and general reading literature. Help available for those with english as a second language.
Yoga Classes
Monday & Wednesday 10 – 11:30am. Yoga is an ancient form of exercises that focuses on strength, flexibility, balance, and breathing to boost phyiscal and mental wellbeing. There is some evidence that regular yoga is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease aches and pains (including low back pain), depression and stress. To join our mixed ability yoga class you need to be able to get up and down from the floor, if not most exercises can be done sitting in a chair instead.
Suitable for adults and beginners are welcome. Classes are designed for all fitness levels. Mats are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. No need to book, just come along!
Cost: £3 per class (members) or £4 (non-members).
Sing & Smile at HASWA – Goldies UK
Monday 1 – 2pm. Every second Monday of each month
Fun singalong sessions for older people.

Monday 4 – 5pm. Helps increase children’s co-ordination, self-awareness, confidence and self esteem while they stretch and strengthen their bodies in a fun environment.

Sahara Carers’ Group
Tuesday and Wednesday 1: 2:30pm. The Sahara Carer’s Groups provides services that will improve the health and wellbeing of carers and the cared for; to improve access to support for harder to reach carers, to provide opportunites to socialise with others, and to reduce social isolation and promote independence through engaging in group activities. This service is to be a preventive service to keep people in the community for as long as practically possible. This will also ensure carers get a break from their caring role. Carers will be supported to stay mentally and physically well and be treated with dignity. We provide information and advice on social care, as well as a range of enjoyable activities for carers.
This a free service for carers and those cared for.
Sewing Club
Tuesday 2:30- 4:30pm
Come, learn and improve your sewing skills. Learn how to cut and sew traditional Indian dress and much more. Bring your own material, share your experience and skills with others in a friendly, informal environment that is supportive for beginners. No booking is required, just drop in.

Zumba Class
Tuesday 7:15 – 8:15pm. Zumba exercise class.

Lunch Club
Wednesday 12 – 3pm. For the isolated and elderly to socialise, take part in stimulating activities such as antakshari, bingo and more, to have a meal and make friends. HASWA lunch clubs will give you some “me” time to rest and enjoy some leisure activities. Meals are freshly cooked and nutritious, and we offer a range of vegetarian Asian cuisine. We also have regular visits from health experts who provide sessions on topics such as: dementia, alzheimers, diabetes, healthy diets, health checks for BP, cholesterol and sugar, etc.

Adult Bollywood/Bhangra Fitness Class
Wednesday 4 – 5pm. Workout to Bollywood and Bhangra dance. Fun fitness class and learn some easy to follow mini routines that improve cardio fitness, muscle tone and coordination.

Pilates/Yoga Classes
Wednesday 6:30 – 7:30, 7:45 – 8:45pm. Pilates is a popular body conditioning routine that may help build flexibility, muscle strength, and endurance in the legs, abdominals, arms, hips, and back. It is useful for improving balance, flexibility, and lower back pain among many other benefits. The pilates class is taught by Pauline Ward, who has been a Qualified Exercise Professional since 1988. Thursdays 6 – 7:30pm school term time only. Punjabi language class at GCSE/AS/A-Level. Practice and learn Punjabi both written and spoken. For ages 7 upwards, beginners always welcome.

Mindfulness Meditation with Pranayam

Mindfulness is a simple, practical tool for a quieter mind, improved sleep, increased focus, more energy, greater health, increased happiness and a more balanced life. Pranayam are simple breathing exercises that both erergises and relaxes the body. No booking is required, just drop in.
