Vaisakhi – 22 April 2017

People of all generations came together to celebrate the Vaisakhi festival which HASWA believes enhances cultural understanding and brings together communities.  Entertainment included a magic performance, singing from the HASWA ladies group, Bollywood and Bhangra performances by the children dance groups and Veena Jain, Storm V Academy. The evening ended with Raffle and authentic Indian cuisine. MP for Dagenham & Rainham Jon Cruddas, Mayor of Havering Cllr Philippa Crowder, Cllrs Melvin Wallace, Stephanie Nunn & Barry Mugglestone also attended the festivities.

Vaisakhi – 23 April 2016

Havering Asian Social and Welfare Association (HASWA) celebrated Vaisakhi (the harvest festival of Punjab and birth of the Khalsa) on the 23 April 2016 at their community centre Greenfields, Kilmartin Way, Elm Park, Essex. People of all generations came together to celebrate the Vaisakhi festival which HASWA believes enhances cultural understanding and brings communities together.

HASWA Vaisakhi 2015

HASWA celebrated Vaisakhi, the harvest festival of Punjab and birth of the Khalsa, on the 25th April 2015 at the HASWA centre. It was a community function and Sansar Singh Narwal; Secretary of HASWA welcomed everybody to the Vaisakhi celebration. He said that events like these help unite communities and brings together people of all faiths and ethnicities. Amongst the guests were MP for Hornchurch and Upminster Dame Angela Watkinson, MP for Dagenham & Rainham Jon Cruddas and the Deputy Mayor of Havering Councillor Barbara Matthews and Councillor Melvin Wallace delivered messages of goodwill. Everyone enjoyed the Dhol and the violin performances, singing by the ladies group and raffle. DJ Surinder Tiwari had everyone dancing to Bhangra music and authentic Indian cuisine was enjoyed by all.

VAISAKHI – 26th April 2014

HASWA Intergenerational Connecting Communities project celebrated Vaisakhi, the harvest festival of Punjab and birth of the Khalsa on the 26th April 2014 at their community centre Greenfields, Kilmartin Way, Elm Park, Essex. It was a community function and Sansar Singh Narwal General Secretary of HASWA welcomed everybody to the Vaisakhi celebration. He said that events like these help unite communities and brings together people of all faiths and ethnicities.   Amongst the guests were Councillor Melvin Wallace and Councillor Andrew Curtin who both delivered messages of goodwill.  Everyone enjoyed the Bollywood dance performances by children and singing by the ladies group.  Malkit Singh sang Bollywood numbers and the Bhangara music had people dancing.  The  evening was filled with music, food and festivities and enjoyed by all.  Authentic Indian cuisine was provided by Samosa King.  Airfield Tesco and members of HASWA donated the raffle prizes.  The event was part funded by the Big Lottery Fund.
